Credit Cards That Accept an ITIN (No SSN Required) — Verified July 2026

Reviewed by Andrey Kuzmin, Founder of VenturePath · Updated July 4, 2026

Most "credit cards without SSN" lists repeat each other, and some of the most-recommended products don't actually take an ITIN application at all. So we checked, issuer by issuer, against each issuer's own documentation and application flow — and dated every row. Five issuers accept an ITIN path today; two popular recommendations require an SSN; one can't build credit at all anymore. Here is the full table.

The five issuers with a verified ITIN path

These accept an ITIN application (or a foreign passport) per their own current documentation. Acceptance is about the application — approval still depends on each issuer's normal criteria.

  • Capital One Platinum Secured, QuicksilverOne

The most accessible mainstream option. An ITIN does not mean automatic approval — normal eligibility criteria still apply.

  • Chase Freedom Rise

Chase also reads Nova Credit-imported history (currently UK and Canada) on select cards.

  • Zolve Classic

Reports to all three US bureaus (Experian, Equifax, TransUnion). Terms change fast — verify current eligibility before applying.

  • Latino Community Credit Union Membership + secured card

Lists an ITIN as an accepted alternative to an SSN for membership; the card itself still goes through normal approval.

  • Self-Help Credit Union Membership + secured card

Operates as two separate credit unions covering different states — confirm the right one for where you live.

Recommended everywhere — but check the fine print

These show up on most "no SSN" lists. Our verification found a different picture:

  • Discover · Unconfirmed — ask the issuer

Widely listed as ITIN-friendly elsewhere; we could not confirm a documented ITIN path. Ask Discover directly before counting on it.

  • HSBC · Unconfirmed — ask the issuer

Publishes no ITIN path for its US credit cards. Call the branch and confirm rather than assuming.

  • Self (Self Lender) · Requires an SSN

Often recommended to ITIN holders — but its own requirements list an SSN.

  • Chime · Requires an SSN

Requires an SSN, and per chime.com/faq the Credit Builder card is closed to new members.

  • TomoCredit · Not a card path

Stopped issuing its card in 2023, and the bureaus cut off its reporting in 2024 — it cannot build US credit history today.

  • Nova Credit · Not a card path

Translates foreign credit history for lenders that read it (Chase is the main US card issuer using it). American Express ended its Nova partnership in 2025.

  • MPOWER Financing · Not a card path

Frequently listed next to ITIN cards, but it offers student loans — not a credit card.

How we verified this

Each row was checked against the issuer's own public documentation (policy pages, application requirements, FAQs) and, where possible, the live application flow. Every row carries the date it was last verified — issuer policies change, so treat the date as part of the data. Rows marked "unconfirmed" mean we could not find a documented ITIN path; that is not a claim the issuer refuses ITINs. This dataset was first published on July 4, 2026, and we update rows as we re-verify them.

Changelog: July 4, 2026 — initial publication of the verified dataset.

Before you apply

ITIN acceptance means the issuer takes the application — it is not approval, and nobody can promise approval. Each issuer's normal eligibility criteria (income, history, deposit) still apply, and policies change without notice. Always confirm the issuer's current requirements on its live application before applying.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a credit card with only an ITIN?

Yes — Capital One (Platinum Secured, QuicksilverOne), Chase (Freedom Rise), and credit unions like Latino Community CU and Self-Help CU accept ITIN applications per their current documentation, and Zolve accepts a foreign passport with an ITIN optional. Acceptance is not approval: normal eligibility criteria still apply.

Which recommended cards actually require an SSN?

Self (Self Lender) lists an SSN in its own requirements, and Chime requires an SSN — and per chime.com/faq its Credit Builder card is closed to new members. Both still appear on many "no SSN" lists.

Does credit built with an ITIN work like credit built with an SSN?

The account history reports to the same three bureaus (Experian, Equifax, TransUnion) and builds the same credit file. What matters is that the issuer reports — for example, Zolve reports to all three.

How do I get an ITIN?

You apply with IRS Form W-7, normally filed with a federal tax return. The IRS asks you to allow about 7 weeks (9–11 in peak season or from abroad). See our step-by-step guide to getting a card without an SSN.
